Our top San Diego spots for Mother's Day and beyond

Our top San Diego spots for Mother's Day and beyond

If you haven’t decided where to take mom this weekend yet, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of our favorite spots in the county that will guarantee mom a brunch, lunch or dinner to remember, plus maybe even a few cheeky cocktails. Remember to call ahead and check availability, it’s going to be a busy one.

While it’s always great to make moms feel like a million dollars on this special day, we believe it should be Mother’s Day everyday. So, even if you don’t make it to any of these venues this weekend, bookmark this post, bank the ideas and then whisk her away for an impromptu ‘just because’ lunch on another day. Because let’s be honest, she always deserves it!

Humphreys Restaurant - Its award winning yummy brunch is served every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. but there’s a special edition on Mother’s Day. Humphreys has a unique SoCal vibe, great views, locally sourced fish, seafood, steaks and produce, as well as free-flowing champagne for brunches.

Hive - One of Kearny Mesa’s newest restaurants, Hive is part of an unfolding 20,000 sq ft entertainment hub. Its 300 seat dining room has a modern, chic feel which compliments its bold American-Korean hybrid menu. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Look out for the $1 oyster and shrimp cocktail during Happy Hour (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.).

Village North - If your mom likes Chinese food, she will LOVE this place. Right next door to Hive, the food served at this brand new Northern Chinese restaurant on Convoy Street is a labor of love, fuelled with nostalgia. Everything on the menu is un-americanized and authentic, just like the owner’s grandma would make it. Open until 2 a.m. at the weekends, we highly recommend its best selling northern item, a delicious pickled pork and cabbage dish - great for sharing.

The Red Door - A celebrated San Diego farm-to-table experience that’s special all year round, The Red Door is offering an irresistibly tempting Mother’s Day menu which includes a grilled Baja shrimp and ‘grits’, local halibut with fava beans and stuffed squash blossom, topped with cherries and churros for dessert. We’re drooling here!

Masters Kitchen & Cocktails- Located in friendly Oceanside, chefs at this stylish, airy dining spot have devised a delicious Mother’s Day menu. Specials will be available all day including a cast-iron fondue, a pan seared local halibut and a divine sounding Elderflower tiramisu. A mouthwatering home cooked meal, exquisite flower adorned cocktails and the smell of the warm sea breeze, who wouldn’t feel like a queen?

Terra American Bistro - This is the kind of spot where you always feel at home. You can taste Chef Jeff’s passion for local, sustainable agriculture in every bite. It will be offering its regular menu on Mother’s Day, along with a few specials - bookings are highly recommended for that day. Don’t forget to check out the seasonal fruit and herb-infused vodkas made in house, as well as the array of local craft beers and California wines.

The Westgate Hotel- This beautifully elegant hotel will be offering a Mother’s Day champagne brunch on Sunday May 14 with made-to-order omelets, fresh seafood, gourmet plates, carving and crepe stations, baked breads, pastries and a variety of gourmet desserts. As if this wasn’t enough, there will be endless champagne, mimosas. Bloody Mary’s and margaritas. If you can’t make that Sunday, traditional afternoon teas are also offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
